Pituitary Disorders
The pituitary is often called the "master gland" of the body because it controls other glands. The pituitary makes several important hormones, and imbalances in hormone production can lead to headaches, vision loss, infertility, menstrual disorders/amenorrhea, breast milk production, growth disorders (short stature or acromegaly), hyperthyroidism, and too much cortisol production (Cushing's disease). UMMC endocrinologists are specially trained to diagnose and treat these conditions, whether with medication or as a surgery referral.
